Garoppolis contract with the Browns is set to expire after this season, according the source.
Garapoli, who played in 14 games with the Patriots last season, was released by the Browns this week.
Garappolo’s departure is a blow to the Patriots.
The former Pro Bowler has played for New England since 2011, when he joined the franchise as an undrafted free agent.
The 30-year-old has struggled to find consistency with the team, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and two touchdowns over the past three seasons.
The Browns have also been without star wide receiver Josh Gordon for the past two seasons due to a hip injury.
Garpoli has started 16 games for the Browns since 2013, posting a 5-25 record.
He is currently serving as the team’s special teams coach.
